Jim Anchower's Hard Rockin' CD Reviews

Led ZeppelinHow the West Was Won DVD
I know this is a review of a DVD and not a CD, but they both look the same. I got this a while ago, only I didn't have a DVD machine. I figured that I never knew when I would be somewhere one would be, so I decided it would be good to have it for such an occasion. Well, it never seemed to happen. Wes has one at his place, only he lives with his mom, and she always gives me the fish eye when I'm there. If you're watching Zep, you need to be able to get in the mood, and nothing kills the mood like someone's ma harshing out every five minutes.

Anyway, I decided that it had been sitting around long enough and I needed to watch it. Wes told me that the library had a DVD player to watch movies with, so I went in, figuring that I could just pop over and get the Led out. I went behind the library and broke out the one hitter, figuring that I would be set for the whole thing. When I went in, I went to the desk and told them that I wanted to watch a DVD. They asked which one I wanted to check out, and I said I brought my own. They said it was unusual, so they needed to look at it because they had problems with people watching porn in the past. That's fucked up. Now, if I'm going to beat my meat, I keep it at home. So they took it, broke it open and they said it was okay, I just had to wait for the guy ahead of me to get done.

I went and looked at some magazines. They only had one car magazine, and I already read that one once, but I was pretty baked, so I didn't mind so much. When my weed started to wear off, I went out back and took a couple of hits just so I'd be ready when the moment came. After like an hour, they came and got me, so I went in there and popped it in. After a couple minutes of fucking around, I figured out how to make it work.

What can I say? It was Zep. When they showed "The Immigrant Song," the picture kept moving around and they kept showing pictures of the crowd, and they sure weren't rocking, but that song still kicks ass. So did the rest of it. The only problem was that I was only there for two hours, before this dillrod comes up and tells me that it's his turn. I shoulda fought him for it, but I was pretty mellow from the weed, so I just let it go.

Over all, what I saw rocked, but it was nothing like The Song Remains the Same. That movie is freaky. There's all kinds of weird double images and so on. Still, when Jimmy Page uses a violin bow on "Dazed and Confused," it was downright killer. If you like Zep, you have to check it out. If you don't know Zep, then I never want you reading my column again until you go to school.
